Future Paintings
All of my recent paintings are on wooden panels. I prefer these over canvas and switched about five or six years ago. I prime them with a couple of coats of white gesso and perhaps give it a little light sanding, but I like to retain some tooth on the surface. There's something sturdy and durable about a painted wooden panel - a box really, if you consider the cradle.
Re-use is also a benefit. A panel can take a beating: painting over, sanding, scraping, etc. whereas a canvas will stretch or tear. Panels just feel more like a real object to me.
I also like having about a dozen of various sizes, primed and lying around ready for business.
